Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan

On October 9, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke over the phone with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. 

The ministers emphasised the need for an immediate ceasefire between HAMAS and Israel, the cessation of all violence in the region, the release of civilian hostages, and the unacceptability of attacks on civilians on both sides. The two parties confirmed the objective to lead the Palestinian-Israeli settlement out of its present deadlock, based on UN resolutions and the revival of the role of the Quartet of international intermediaries composed of the UN, Russia, the US and the EU. 

The foreign ministers also discussed current bilateral issues and interaction within BRICS in the context of the Russian Presidency in the association in 2024, and with account taken of the UAE joining BRICS as a full member.
